PICK-UP ROUTINE FOR WEEKLY ALLOWANCE CHECKLIST
Is your tween or teen always needing money, but at the same time that wet towel never seems to find its way back to the hook?
I am right there with you.
I'm convinced that even though we teach our kids since toddlerhood to maintain our home, when they hit the middle school years, that part of their learning falls out of their brain. Just shatters to the floor.
Simultaneously, they're noticing friends and wanting to bike to the store for candy, meet peers at the movie theater, or buy those new kicks that cost one million dollars, and their birthday cash is running out.
So, the solution: kids can pick up daily to earn a weekly allowance.
My son and I started this routine, but I gave him no framework. Simply pick up and you can earn some of those beautiful, green Benjis.
Except he didn't like that. He wanted a checklist. And I get it. I thrive better at work when the expectations are clear. So, my teen and I sat down together and came up with this pick-up-routine-for-allowance list.
It includes:
-morning, day, and evening chores (Mon-Fri)
-practical and concise, a very doable list
-word document so it can be edited and tailored to different seasons or to fit your family
-place to check off when daily maintenance (chores) are completed
-place to calculate how much money was earned for the week
I love this because it's developing good habits and helping my big kid experience how little time it takes to pick up after himself. Also, I'll blink and he'll be off at college with a roommate. I'm convinced kids learning to pick up now will improve future relationships with roommates, spouses, coworkers, and anyone they share a space with.
What do you think? Are you tired of nagging your kid to clean, and them nagging you for cash?
This might work for you too.
Because harmony in the home is everything.❤
PS - We still clean weekly as a family (vacuum, dust, scrub) and my middle schooler does NOT get paid for that. That's our family routine.
